KZAP pioneers Progressive Rock in the valley

The Top 40 stations in Sacramento were actually pretty daring.  But,
after November 8, 1968 all bets were off.  Broadcasting from "high
above Sacramento" on the 13th floor of the Elks Building, the crew
of very young announcers helped create and maintain a community
of like-minded listeners drawn to the eclectic music, the relaxed
presentation and the left-leaning politics.  Labeled with the best
Rock station call letters EVER, KZAP remained a Valley institution
for 23 years morphing from Progressive-, to Album Oriented-, to
Classic-Rock.
